STUDENTS SUPPORT GLOBAL ACTION

Swaziland National Union of Students

Press release

3 September 2011

SOURCE

The Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) supports and is part of the GLOBAL WEEK OF ACTION ON SWAZILAND (GWOAS).

As a Student’s Union we fully advocate for the democratization of our country. As of now Swaziland is an Undemocratic state; many who dare to speak out against the regime and for democracy are arrested and some are tortured.

We will be calling for the release of Maxwell Dlamini, our President, who was detained in April, and all political prisoners.

The President has not been put to trial. He was charged for violating the Explosives Act. The state has failed to prove any criminal charges against him. This shows the extent of the brutality of the Swazi Regime. As students we therefore use the GWOAS to, inter alia, and demand that:

Comrade Maxwell be released from Prison immediately together with other political prisoners

Government pay scholarships to ALL qualifying students at the University of Swaziland
Tinkhundla must be abolished and replaced by Multiparty democracy

We will be joining the labour unions and other civic society groups during the GWOAS. We therefore appeal to our International Students Unions and other allies to continue supporting us in our quest.
