As a result, a number of Non-Governmental Organisations that deal with HIV/AIDS issues and receive funding from NERCHA face closure, the Times of Swaziland reports today (21 July 2011).
Further compounding matters is that NERCHA has also not received a cent from the Global Fund, which also disburses millions of Emalangeni for the organisation’s operations.
As of July 2011, government has failed to disburse E16 million (US$2.3 million) for NERCHA’s operations during the first quarter (April to June) and for the first month of the second quarter (July to August).
This is despite government having made a public undertaking that the health sector was one of two areas (the other being education) that would not experience any budgetary shortfalls as a result of the country’s financial challenges.
